CANCER: Only 20% of children recover in Nigeria – Expert

FOUNDER of the Children Living With Cancer Foundation, Dr. Nneka Nwobbi, has said that only 20 percent of Nigerian children plagued by cancer recover, unlike most developed countries where cancer patients have 80-90 per cent chances of recovery. Nwobbi, who said this during a courtesy visit to Vanguard Headquarters yesterday in Lagos, commended the organisation for its role in spreadinginformation about childhood cancer. Her words:’’there is a lot of noise being made about breast cancer and prostate cancer, but a lot of people are not aware that cancer affects children too. Even oncology experts in Nigeria pay very little attention toit. But our children are dying daily, and it seems like not many people care.
